Markings and guides belong to Tokotas

Melanism

[Melanistic, Melanism]

Melanism is a rare genetic mutation, which, similar to albinism, masks most markings.
Unlike albinism, however, melanism is hereditary and can only occur if one or both of the parents has the mutation.
It masks the coat and most markings with a dark, dull black.

Color

Melanism turns the coat a dull, dark, barely saturated color.

Melanism + Other Markings

The following genes WILL NOT SHOW on melanistic tokotas.
Minimal White | Vitiligo | Restricted Seal | Piebald
Restricted Piebald | Van Gogh Piebald | Monet Piebald | Double Merle*

*Double Merle will present as standard Merle on Melanistic Tokotas

Anything not listed above WILL SHOW with low opacity on a melanistic tokota.

Example of pangare + melanism (left) and barring + melanism (right).

Marked + Dun + Melanism

Marked may be effected by dun on a melanistic tokota, but it should not be nearly as saturated as on a regular tokota.
It should be a dull, dark brown.

Points

:new: Melanism may optionally slightly darken and desaturate the color range of points.
[ This includes points attached to merle! ]

Seal + Melanism

Seal creates a different effect on melanistic tokotas. Instead of the base being turned white and
covering all other markings, the base will be regular melanistic colors, but with darker seal spots on top.

This also has the ability to create a higher density of seal spots in
general, though the size of those spots will not be affected.
